Resumo O presente estudo é uma narrativa da história das ciências forenses que descreve a influência da igreja, o pioneirismo egípcio e a inovação chinesa ao publicar o primeiro tratado de medicina legal. Relata também os acontecimentos na Europa e nos Estados Unidos, finalizando com um breve histórico da medicina legal no Brasil. O objetivo desta revisão foi descrever os primeiros registros e as dificuldades encontradas durante a consolidação da medicina legal, mantendo viva a memória dos pioneiros desta ciência.

Abstract This study is a historical overview of forensic sciences describing the church and Egyptian influence the Chinese pioneering in publish the first treatise on forensic sciences, citing historical events in Europe and United States, ending with a Brazilian forensic science history. The objective was to describe the problems and difficulties on forensic science consolidation and keep the memory of this science alive.
