Resumo A estimativa do intervalo postmortem é fundamental em casos de investigação criminal, pois tal estimativa pode inocentar ou culpar algum suspeito. Entretanto, apesar das técnicas utilizadas atualmente, ainda não se pode estabelecer com exatidão a hora do fato, mas sim uma aproximação em faixa de tempo segura. Diante desse cenário, o presente trabalho tem por objetivo descrever a evolução histórica dos métodos utilizados na estimativa do intervalo postmortem inicial.

Abstract The estimation of the postmortem interval is critical in cases of criminal investigation, because such an estimate can turn a suspect guilty or not guilty. However, despite of the modern techniques, we cant establish the exact time of the fact, but rather an approach to securely interval of time. Given this scenario, this paper aims to describe the historical evolution of the methods used in estimating initial postmortem interval.
