Resumo Esta pesquisa investigou a percepção de descendentes pomeranos sobre o alto índice de suicídio e homicídio na cultura pomerana no município de Santa Maria de Jetibá, interior do Estado do Espírito Santo. Os participantes possuíam idades entre 25 e 60 anos, viveram na família situações de violência (homicídio, tentativa e suicídio, agressão) e residem no município de estudo. Foi utilizado o método qualitativo fenomenológico-semiótico para analisar os resultados. Pela análise das 8 entrevistas, concluímos que os pomeranos apresentam dificuldades de identificar quais são os hábitos e costumes da cultura pomerana e descrevem-se como um povo desconfiado, fechado, depressivo e não agressivo. Os fatores associados à violência mencionados pelos participantes foram o álcool e outras drogas, além do uso inadequado de agrotóxico.

Abstract This study investigated the perception of Pomeranian descendants about the high rate of suicide and homicide in the Pomeranian culture in the municipality of Santa Maria de Jetibá, in the state of Espírito Santo. Participants were aged between 25 and 60 years, faced situations of violence in their family (homicide, suicide and suicide attempts, aggression) and live in the municipality of the research. The qualitative semiotic-phenomenological method was used to analyze the results. Based on the analysis of eight interviews, we concluded that Pomeranians have difficulty in identifying habits and customs of the Pomeranian culture and describe themselves as a wary, closed, depressive and non-aggressive people. The factors related to violence mentioned by the participants were alcohol and other drugs, as well as inappropriate use of pesticides.
