Abstract
Criminal profiling is a collection of proficiencies that has helped the criminal investigation professionals all around the globe. However, little is known about the technique. This article aims to analyze the current profiling scenario in the country, as well as the role that its document - the expert report - plays in our judicial sphere. In order to do so, it was carried out a literature research and interviews with professional psychologists and bodies of the class. The results show a scenario devoid of expert activity concerning the development of criminal profiles from crime scenes, so that, besides the lack of the activity regulation and the space that exists between the expert work and the law enforcements, a failure in our culture concerning the expert work - not only in the criminal profiling branch, but as a whole, hinders the development of such activity in Brazil.
